Romans 8:38-39: “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers…. will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

After Watching all of the hype, trailers, and promo interviews, I thought I was just going to see a cool action flick.

I guess I was wrong. Somehow, I saw a religious angle to this fantastic movie. Guys, get ready for some spoilers if you still haven’t seen it (sorry, not sorry).lol

At the beginning, there was this scene where the Amazon women trained. This setting was so serene that  it looked like it could have come out of the garden of Eden.

Another scene that caught my attention was when the origin story of the Amazons, where the battle between Zeus, his son, and mankind, created in Zeus’ own image (Genesis 1:26-27) is revealed.

The movie says that Zeus’ son, the war god Ares, was jealous of mankind so he decided to destroy the world by turning them against one and other, this led to the birth of the Amazon warriors.

In the movie, Ares ‘poisoned the hearts of man with jealousy and suspicion.’ Satan did the same thing in the garden of Eden when he posed as a serpent and tempted Eve with the apple from the forbidden tree (Genesis 3:4-5).

Moving on to the main gist of this article. Towards to the end of the movie, there was this part where Gal Gadot, who acts as Diane Prince (wonder woman), gets frustrated because of the evil in the heart of the human race.

In an attempt to encourage her to have faith in us, Chris Pine who plays Captain Steve Trevor, gives this passionate speech about how human beings don’t necessarily deserve mercy or help, but still need her help. Sounds familiar, right?

That is because it has been said before, in the Bible. Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Trevor’s speech is repeated in Romans 3:12, “All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one,” and Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Seeing this scene, how disappointed Wonder Woman is in mankind, I can’t help but think, “Wow, this must be how God feels about us sometimes. He gives and gives but we still make stupid, bad decisions that belittle his sacrifices.”

He ends up sacrificing his life in order to save everyone (John 15:13) but that isn’t even the best part.

Before an epic battle with Ares, Wonder Woman is encouraged to see all only the negative sides of human beings. She is given loads of reasons why mankind is terrible and deserves to be wiped out.

As this happens, Ares provides her with the opportunity to kill the radical Nazi chemist, Doctor Poison, responsible for the weapons used in the war. This lady is also responsible for the death of the man she loves, Trevor.

Wonder woman carries a weapon, ready to strike and kill her. Here, we see a flashback happen in her head, she is reminded of the good that still exists in some humans.

Seeing this, she lowers her weapon and tells Ares that ‘everything he says about humans is true. They aren’t good, but there’s more to them than just that. This isn’t about what they deserve, it’s about love.’

Wonder Woman is an amazing movie, the great cast, cool fighting scenes and beautiful story line.
